INTRODUCTION

This is the first known attempt to put together a complete Oversby/Obersby Family tree that reflects the family into the 21st century

If one from an earlier time exists, we have never found it.

We have drawn from every available source and tried to cross-check every entry.

It is highly probable errors and inconsistencies may filter through.

Please feel free to contact us so that these may be corrected or amended as appropriate.

The initial construction will focus on those descendants of Generation 1

John Oversby (1672? /1676? Dent, West Yorkshire, England –6 Jun 1730 Dent, Yorkshire, England)

who married (=) Elizabeth? (1678 Dent, Yorkshire, England– 1722 Dent, Yorkshire, England)

This has been chosen as a starting point as all known family members can trace their line to this one man

Any person male or female who married into this Oversby family are shown on their own families’ tree with directional points to the flow path

It is the eventual aim to have as complete a record for those entries as possible - time and research allowing

The numbering of the generations will enable the reader to work out their relationship to those that came before or followed

In the 19th century, misspellings of the Oversby surname - as Hubbersby /Hubbersly /Hubbersty /Obersee /Obersbeey - gave rise to a branch of the family being called Obersby. A surname that survives to this day.

Instances of double-barrelling include Oversby-Powell and Preston-Oversby

Whilst we have found instances of the surname being misspelt as Overby, our researches have not found any actual link to that family. In looking at US entries particularly this misinterpretation may lead to confusion

All dates are as accurate as possible

If a particular entry has  disputed facts they are accompanied by a question-mark.

Entries from births, marriages and deaths registers are entered as - District Vol Page. Be aware these may reflect an event that happened in an earlier month

Sometimes birthdates that have been recorded are actually baptism dates.
